Experimenting with Oobleck!

Recently in Room 21 we have been experimenting the fascinating mysteries of Oobleck. Oobleck has a mixture of cornflour and water with a ratio of 3:1. With our Oobleck we experimented by seeing what would happen if we punched our Oobleck, rolled it into a ball, let it sit on our had and many more MESSY things. With our testing we found that force would make the the Oobleck stiff and dry but leaving it or touching it slowly would make it liquid. So is it a liquid or not? Who knows! Our next challenge is to build a functional spacecraft that can land and take off easily from a sticky sea of Oobleck!

Room 21 in action at Camp

On the 23-25 of March Room 21 from Taradale intermediate went to camp Opouahi.
Opouahi is a lake and kiwi crèche which is situated behind Lake Tutira.
On the first day we went for a walk through the kiwi crèche. It was interesting walking through all the native forest and learning about all the native animals and their predators. Later on we actually got to see and pat a real kiwi! After we had cooked tea on gas stoves it was time to play spot light.
After a rather uncomfortable sleep we set off to the lake. At the lake we went kayaking and some ABL puzzles. After lunch we went caving and tested the quality of the water in the stream. After tea there was a performance by the performing art group.
The next day we did some community service inside the kiwi crèche, and then it was time to pack up and go home.
